Praise and Thanksgiving
We invite you and your family to our Primary Praise and Thanksgiving Ceremony next Tuesday 6 December at 8.50am for a 9.00am start. While it is an expectation that all students from Year 2 to 6 attend in formal uniform, I encourage all Early Learning Centre families to join us for this important ceremony. You are most welcome.

We have academic and citizenship awards for each class, musical performances by our Primary String Ensemble, the Primary Choir, the Year 6 Graduation and a Year 5 class performing a little hip-hop! We will also announce our Semester 1, 2017 Captains and, at the end of the ceremony, all students and parents will form a guard of honour for the Year 6 students as they walk back to their classrooms for the last time.

Students may go home with parents at the conclusion of the service. All other students must be collected by midday as the School closes for the 2016 school year at midday. The School Bus Service will not be available on Tuesday afternoon. Please note: the Early Learning Centre students (Pre-Kindergarten to Year 1) finish school for the year at 3.00pm on Monday 5 December.

Year 6 Valedictory and PYP Exhibition
There was an excellent attendance at the Year 6 Valedictory and PYP Exhibition on Monday 28 November. Guests were amazed by the outstanding work that has been done by Year 6 students this year.

ELC Nativity and Carols Performance
What a wonderful morning we had today as the Pre-Primary and Year 1 students performed a most enjoyable and thought provoking Nativity. All students looked fantastic in their costumes and I loved the confidence and poise demonstrated by all. Thank you to our dedicated staff, led for the Nativity by Lauren Downing and our ELC Coordinator, Melissa Forslun. The amount of work involved by our Education Assistants and teaching staff is commendable and a credit to the quality and dedication of our ELC educators.

New Upper Primary Build

There was great excitement around the School campus on Tuesday 29 November as a giant crane delivered the temporary classrooms for the Year 5 and Year 6 classes for 2017. These students will have the best views in the School as they await the stunning re-development of the senior Primary areas. The new additions and alterations to the current building will create an amazing new centre which will contain six modern learning areas for Years 5 and 6; a specialist teaching area; a dedicated home of Primary Music; IT Support and Help Desk Office; large central space; staff meeting area and toilets; storerooms and covered outdoor areas.

The new designs, whilst sympathetic to the existing architecture of the School, will be distinguished by living green exterior features, light and spacious interiors, an uninterrupted view of the hills and a colour palette suited to older primary children. It promises to be an excellent facility for the School. It is estimated to be a nine-month building process.

Year 4 Team Super Saver donate to Save the Children
A very industrious group of Year 4 girls decided they would do some busking during lunchtime to raise money for Save the Children. Through the generosity of staff and students they raised an incredible $200. Sonia Braney from Save The Children was thrilled to come to the School and meet the girls and receive their donation.  The girls call themselves Team Super Saver and they were able to decide where the money should be allocated and chose a very worthy cause close to the School in Gosnells. "A big thank you to John Wollaston Anglican Community School Year 4 students who called themselves "Team Super Saver" to fundraise for Save the Children by busking at their school. I visited them today and they should be proud of their fundraising efforts. Keep up the good work!" said Sonia Braney, Save The Children.

Year 5 and 6 Encounter Experiences 2017
We are pleased to have booked the Swan Valley Adventure Centre for two nights in early September 2017, for Year 5. This three-day camp in the Swan Valley is at a new facility that has been purchased by the Anglican Schools Commission. We are looking forward to experiencing the many outdoor activities on offer over an action packed few days.

Year 6 will be travelling to Canberra from Sunday 14 May to Thursday 18 May in 2017. We will be staying at the Australian Institute of Sport and I look forward to the many informative visits to the Australian War Memorial, Parliament House and Government House. Current Year 5 parents will have received an email with preliminary information and we will also hold an information session for parents in Term 1, 2017.

Growing Music and Performing Arts at John Wollaston
In 2017 we will extend our Music programme to provide further opportunities for students to be part of a choir from Years 2 to 8. We will also establish a Year 4 Choir; introduce all Year 5 students to the ukulele and hopefully provide the opportunity for Year 6 to learn more about dance. We will be encouraging more students to form, and be part of, John Wollaston Music Ensembles. More information about this will be provided at our Parent Information Night on Wednesday 1 February 2017. We also hope to stage another wonderful musical production through the year.

Save the Date

  • Primary Parent Information Night on Wednesday 1 February 2017

Please note that students start back for the 2017 school year on Tuesday 31 January. I request that all families attend our Primary Parent Information Night on Wednesday 1 February 2017, starting at 6.00pm in the Victoria Morgan Arts Centre. This is an important opportunity for you to hear about new initiatives and innovation in our school and then meet with your relevant class teacher(s) for information about expectations and learning in 2017. More information will follow via email.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
Thank you to all our families for another great year at John Wollaston. We have such happy, enthusiastic and friendly students and a supportive community. I look forward to 2017 and I hope you all enjoy this precious time with your wonderful children.

Take care and I hope to see you all next Tuesday morning 6 December as we come together as a community. Merry Christmas!
