Buddy Bench
This term we have seen the Buddy Bench in use in the Primary Playground.

Sometimes children feel lonely or isolated at recess or lunchtime. If a child is feeling left out, can’t find someone to play with, or their best friend is away, they can simply sit on the bench. Another student will then see them sitting on the bench and invite them to come and play, or may simply just choose to sit and talk to them. We have seen lots of children this term going up to someone on the buddy bench and saying “Would you like to come and play with me?” This is all an important part of the way that we show we care for one another at John Wollaston.

A special thanks must go to Ashlee Shaw for bringing the idea to our attention and to Stephen Pullucino from the Grounds Department for building the bench.

SEQTA Engage for Semester 1 Reports
All parents and guardians of Primary and Secondary students are reminded that the Semester 1 Student Reports will only be available via SEQTA Engage. Reports will not be posted to families. If you have not activated the link to access SEQTA Engage, sent to your registered email address, please do so as a matter of priority.

Once you have logged in for the first time there are a few important things to remember:

  • You must go to the John Wollaston Anglican Community School website home page. You cannot Google ‘Seqta Engage’ to find the John Wollaston link
  • Look for the blue Community Portal button at the top of the page. Click on this button.
  • Then click on Engage (orange) and enter your username and password. These are case sensitive.


  • Please remember your Username. If you cannot remember your Password, please enter your correct Username and click the ‘forgot my password’ link. A new email inviting you to join SEQTA Engage should then arrive at your email inbox.
  • Please note: SEQTA can be viewed more easily on an iPad or a computer; mobile phone viewing is extremely limited.

SEQTA Access for Families Leaving 
Parents whose child is leaving John Wollaston at the conclusion of Term 2 are reminded to download all reports and feedback statements for your child from SEQTA before July 5 2017. You will lose your access to SEQTA after this time. 

Sports and Special Photograph Orders
Academy Photography has advised that photograph orders of any Sports and Special Photographs can now be taken. Examples of these photographs include the Semester 1 Primary Captains and Class Representatives, Secondary House Council and the Primary and Secondary Whole House photographs.

Primary Reports
As you are aware, our method of reporting has changed this year. These changes provide you with continuous and comprehensive information about your child’s academic and social development at John Wollaston. You receive detailed feedback every six weeks based on each International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Unit of inquiry; so you have an update of your child’s progress six times per year. For the first time, this will include comments from the Specialist teachers at least once per year.

To complement this reporting regime, you will receive two comprehensive reports, one at the end of Semester One each year, and one at the end of the academic year. These reports will provide a summative assessment of your child’s progress in each subject area. The format for these reports proved a clear visual indicator of the level/grade for each subject. Grades are informed by the West Australian Curriculum Standards. The report will begin with a ‘Profile of the Learner’ general comment that will provide you with a personalised account of your child’s learning journey for the Semester. These are designed to include observations on character development, progress in English and Mathematics and the attributes of the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile.

Students who have an Individual Education Plan will not receive grades on their report but will receive detailed information about their performance in Mathematics and English. An updated version of the IEP will also be uploaded onto SEQTA Engage and will provide information on the students achievements.

Final Assembly
Today was the Commissioning of the Semester 2 Captains and Merit Certificate Assembly and announcement of Semester 2 Class Representatives. Congratulations to all students who received a Merit Certificate.
