Congratulations to the Semester 2 Pegasus Society students
The Pegasus Society recognises students who excel in all facets of the academic curriculum. In lower school this includes Physical Education, Health Education and the student’s specialist subjects. In Years 11 and 12 membership is based on a predicted ATAR score of 90 or greater. In society, we often celebrate our sports stars or even reality TV personalities, but we rarely bestow the same level of recognition on our brightest minds. In fact, in Australia, many of top researchers and academics are lured overseas by scholarships or funding. Take the recent television phenomenon of Australian Ninja Warrior. This extreme game show pitting elite athletes against an obstacle course, attracted nearly three million viewers across Australia earlier this week for the grand final episode. The top performing ‘academic’ gameshow currently airing on TV is The Chaser, which on a good night will attract around 20% of what Australian Ninja Warrior did.

So, alongside our best John Wollaston swimmers, cross-country runners, athletes and eventual Champion Sports Girl and Boy this year, let’s celebrate our best all-round academic students from Semester 1 2017:

Lucy Butterfield-Cole Year 8
