Primary String's Excursion
This week our Primary sting's students enjoyed a full day at the Anglican Schools Commission’s Primary Strings Day at John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School. This involved students who play the violin, cello, viola or double bass, from the many Anglican Schools, coming together to celebrate music and be part of a wider orchestra. Year 5 student Mia Wall said it was an excellent learning experience and opportunity to play as part of an orchestra was a highlight. The day ended with a combined concert. Thank you to Mr Marchant and Mrs Cook for organising and attending this excursion.

Music in the Primary School
As you may be aware, we have a focus on expanding our music program this year. This includes all Year 4 students being part of a choir with Mrs Coles, all Year 5 students learning the ukulele and vocals with Mr Marchant and the inclusion of Year 7 and 8 students in the Senior Choir. We also offer free ensemble lessons after school each week for strings, vocals and guitar vocals in Terms 3. We have many talented students in our school and we look forward to enhancing our music program in coming years. If you are interested in individual musical tuition for your child, please contact Mr Marchant via Mrs Brown at Primary Reception.

The Year 3 Kookaburra class performed a wonderful Assembly today. They wrote and performed their own scripts.

Welcome to our New Families
I extend a warm welcome to the new families who have joined us this term. I hope your children have settled in well and enjoying school life at John Wollaston. Please feel free to meet with me with any feedback about our school; I am always happy to chat with members of our school community.

Academic Reports
Feedback on our new reporting format has been most positive. Our aim is to provide you with a profile of each child that describes character, attitude to learning and an accurate assessment of achievement at this point in time, based on the guidelines set by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. I know, as a parent, that I am most interested in the character my child displays at school first, and then a clear indication of how my child is achieving in each learning area according to the expected standard for that year level. Please arrange to meet with me should you have any feedback regarding our Primary reports.

Healthy Eating at John Wollaston – Package Free Monday
During Semester 1 we have been promoting healthy eating throughout the school. The focus has been on encouraging students to eat fruit and vegetables for morning tea and to have a healthy lunchbox each day that includes dairy products, meat or alternatives, wholegrains, fruit and vegetables and water.

This term we are going to introduce Package Free Monday. I will be speaking to the students next week about trying to ensure that the food they bring in their lunchbox on a Monday is package free. The aim is to try to minimize the amount of food eaten that contains preservatives, additives etc, whilst also reducing waste and protecting our environment.  More information will follow in the next few weeks. We look forward to your support of this new initiative as we continue to promote a healthy lifestyle.
