WWI comes to life in Year 9 History

ANZAC PIC

The Year 9 History class is studying WWI. Students are working on an empathy diary task. Some of the small memories soldiers may have during the war are situations where they receive letters, biscuits, smokes, etc…

Mrs Bissell took the Year 9 class into the commercial kitchen this week and they baked ANZAC biscuits. The Army biscuit, also known as an "ANZAC Wafer", or "ANZAC Tile", is essentially a long shelf-life, hard tack biscuit, eaten as a substitute for bread. They were a sweet treat, non-perishable and provided a good amount of energy for soldiers during WWI. The students loved the activity as it brought History to life.

Chalk Café
This year, the Year 12 Hospitality students have operated the Chalk Café each Tuesday morning to serve staff breakfast and also offer coffee and bakery items to parents. Last week, they offered a buffet style breakfast as one of the final Café openings for the year. The feedback was very positive and we are planning a buffet for our final service on 10 October 2017. The students have enjoyed the interactions with staff and parents and the opportunity to improve their hospitality skills. We thank you for the support this year and your contribution to improving the students’ hospitality skills. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 10 October.
