Issue 19 Deputy Principal Pastoral Care

  • A busy term

As the 2017 school year draws to a close, John Wollaston continues to be a hive of activity. Some of the exciting activities over the past two weeks have included:

  • The Year 11 Dinner Dance at the Swan Yacht Club
  • The inaugural Year 9 student and parent School Camp-out
  • Year 10 River Cruise
  • Year 10 and 11 Praise and Thanksgiving Ceremony
  • Year 7 Encounter at the Majedal Activity Centre

All these events are important occasions as we celebrate and enhance the strong school community and culture that we enjoy at John Wollaston. Students and staff alike are looking forward to a well – deserved summer holiday. While the holiday period can sometimes be a stressful and difficult time for some families, I do have some simple tips that may assist in making the most of your time together as a family.

1. Schedule some time over the holiday period that is dedicated to the family. Ensure that everyone clears their diary and commits to spending quality time together.

2. Pitch a tent for a few nights in one our fantastic camping grounds.

3. As a family, commit to regular technology-free days. Make an agreement to put all screens and other digital devices away for a day in order to give each other your full attention.

4. Reinforce the true meaning of Christmas by volunteering some time at a local charity or donating some items of food or clothing. Organisations that we can help include; Anglicare and The Salvation Army.

I sincerely wish all our families a very restful and enjoyable Christmas holiday. We look forward to welcoming all students back to school on Wednesday 31 January 2018. I do request your support in ensuring that your child presents looking neat and tidy for the first day of school. This includes hairstyles and uniform being worn correctly as outlined in our Student Homework Diary.

All the best
Nick Jones
